Privacy Policy
StoragePilot does not collect, transmit or store your personal data. This page explains what that means in practice, which permissions the app asks for, and why each one is needed.
Last updated 22 August 2026 · Applies to StoragePilot for Android 1.0.0
1. The short version
StoragePilot does not collect your data, because it has nowhere to send it. There is no server behind the app, no account system, and no network request involved in any file operation. Scanning, hashing, compressing and deleting all happen on your device, and the results never leave it.
That is not a promise about how carefully your data is handled somewhere else. It is a description of an app that has no somewhere else.
2. Who is responsible for this app
StoragePilot is developed and published by an independent developer rather than a company. For anything concerning this policy or your privacy, write to storagepilotapp@gmail.com. Messages are read and answered by a person.
3. What is collected
Nothing. The app does not transmit your files, filenames, photos, storage figures, installed app list or usage data to the developer or to any third party. Specifically, there is no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, no crash-reporting service, no cookies, no advertising identifier, and no account or profile of any kind.
Because nothing is collected, there is nothing to sell, share, hand over or lose in a breach.
4. What is stored on your device
Some information is written to your phone’s own storage so the app is usable. None of it is readable by the developer.
- Scan results. The list of junk, large files and empty folders found by a scan is cached locally so the app opens quickly instead of rescanning every time.
- Your preferences. Theme, scan depth, delete confirmations, size thresholds and whether storage alerts are switched on.
Both stay on the device until you remove them. Android’s automatic cloud backup is switched off for this app, so neither your scan results nor your settings are copied to Google Drive. Settings includes “Clear Scan Cache” and “Reset All Settings”, and uninstalling the app deletes everything it has stored.
5. Permissions, and why each one is requested
Android shows permission prompts without much context, so here is what each one is actually for. The app explains its reasoning before requesting anything.
- Photos and video. Needed to find duplicate photos, identify screenshots, group similar shots and let you review and delete media. Files are read on the device to calculate their size and checksum, and are never uploaded.
- All files access. Needed to scan storage for junk, oversized files and empty folders outside your media folders. Where Android allows it, the app works through the Storage Access Framework so you can grant a specific folder rather than the whole device.
- App usage access (optional). Used only to read when each installed app was last opened, which is what makes the unused-app list possible. Decline it and that feature reports no data rather than inventing figures. Everything else keeps working.
- Installed app list. Needed to show your apps with their real sizes in the app manager. The list is read on the device and is never transmitted.
- Requesting app removal. Lets the app hand an uninstall to Android’s own removal prompt. The system performs the uninstall, not StoragePilot.
- Notifications (optional). Used only for storage alerts you switch on yourself, which are generated on the device from your own scan results. Off until you enable them.
- Run at startup. Lets scheduled storage checks survive a reboot, so alerts you enabled keep working. Used only for that.
6. Internet access
The app declares Android’s network permission because the framework it is built on includes it as standard. No file operation uses it: scanning, hashing, compression and deletion all run offline, and the app is fully functional in aeroplane mode. Your files, filenames and storage figures are never sent anywhere.
7. Third parties
The app contains no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking components. If you install it from Google Play, your download and any future payments are handled by Google under its own privacy policy, which the developer neither controls nor receives personal data from.
8. This website
Everything above describes the Android app. This website is a separate thing, and it is worth being clear about the difference.
The site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people read. That tells the developer whether the site is useful; it says nothing about your device, your files or anything you do inside the app, because the app never reports to the website. Google sets its own cookies for this and processes the data under Google’s privacy policy.
If you would rather not be counted, any browser-level tracking protection or ad blocker will stop it, as will Google’s own opt-out add-on. Nothing on the site stops working if you block it.
9. Deletion is always yours to confirm
The app never deletes anything on its own. Every removal, individual or bulk, shows a confirmation naming how many files are affected and how much space will be freed. Nothing is removed in the background and nothing is removed on a schedule.
10. Your rights
Privacy laws including the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct, export and delete the personal data a company holds about you. The developer holds none, so there is no request to make and no record to erase. The data on your device is under your control at all times, and clearing the cache or uninstalling the app removes it completely.
11. Children
StoragePilot is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect information from anyone of any age, because it does not collect information at all.
12. Changes to this policy
If the app ever changes in a way that affects this policy, this page will be updated before that change ships, and the date at the top will change with it. Material changes will be noted in the changelog.
13. Contact
Questions about privacy, or anything on this page you would like explained further, can be sent to storagepilotapp@gmail.com.
