Duplicate Photo Finder

Finds genuinely identical photos using SHA-256 hashing, so you get exact matches rather than lookalike guesswork.

The problem

Photos get duplicated constantly: saved twice from a chat, copied between folders, restored from a backup. Every copy takes full space, and spotting them by eye across thousands of images isn't realistic.

What makes it different

Matching is exact. A SHA-256 hash match means the files are byte-for-byte identical, so you're never asked to trust a similarity score when deleting a photo you can't get back.

How it works

  1. The first pass compares photos by file size, which rules out the vast majority of pairs almost instantly.

  2. Only the remaining candidates are hashed with SHA-256, so the expensive step runs on a small fraction of your library.

  3. Files with matching hashes are grouped together, and each group shows the space it's wasting.

  4. Within each group you choose which copy to keep. The rest go only after you confirm.
